DIY Face Mask for Your Skin Type

Face masks are beneficial for nourishing the skin, hydration, absorbing excess oil, balancing skin tone and texture, calming, soothing and anti ageing.  Certain masks are better for certain skin types and conditions. Here are some recipes for DIY home-made masks to suit your skin care needs.

Oily skin - Simple yeast mask

Brewers yeast
Water
~
Mix water and yeast together to make a smooth paste.  Apply to face and neck and relax for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Blemished skin - Tomato mask

1 tomato chopped thoroughly
1 tablespoon instant oatmeal
1 teaspoon lemon juice
~
Mix all ingredients together adding more oatmeal if needed – needs to be a thick enough paste to sit on face and neck.  Leave on face and neck for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Dry skin - Avocado mask

1 egg yolk
1 small avocado
1/2 banana (eat the other half, it’s high in magnesium)
2 teaspoons carrot juice
2-3 teaspoons white clay
1 drop rose essential oil (optional)
~
Mash avocado and banana together. Stir in egg yolk. Add carrot juice, rose essential oil and a teaspoon of white clay and mix well.  If too runny add more clay until a smooth paste forms.  Apply mask to face and neck in an even layer and leave on your skin for 10 minutes.  Wash off thoroughly with warm water.

Normal skin - Chocolate mask

1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoons Rich Cream Moisturiser
2 teaspoons cottage cheese
1/4 cup honey
3 teaspoons instant oatmeal
~
Miss all ingredients together and smooth onto face.  Relax for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water.

Sensitive skin - Avocado banana mask

1/4 mashed ripe avocado
1/2 mashed banana
2 table spoons plain yogurt
1 teaspoon wheatgerm oil
~
Mix all ingredients together.  Apply mixture to face and neck and leave for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.

Mature skin - Yogurt mask

2 teaspoons plain natural yogurt
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
3 capsules vitamin E (contents squeezed into yogurt)
~
Combine all ingredients thoroughly.  Apply to face and neck in a nice even layer.  Leave on skin for 15 minutes before thoroughly washing off with warm water.

Note: you can use any left overs on hands and feet, wrapped in plastic bags.

Note: discard left overs immediately after use.  Made for one use/application only.

Note: follow all mask applications with toner and moisturiser and cleanse and exfoliate prior to application.
