Hair Care & Natural Treatments

What type of hair do you have? Thick, think, dry, oily, shiny, matt?

As with skin type there are hair types (usually similar to your skin type) and hair conditions. The type of hair you have is based on the dryness or oiliness of your hair and how much hair you have. Conditions are things like dandruff, frizz, limp or brittle hair.

There isn’t much to be done about the thickness of your hair, you’ve either got lots or you don’t. Although there are some tricks to improve your hair.

Limp Hair

Limp hair can result in the build up of residue in your hair. To treat this try: 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1 cup water to rinse hair after shampooing and conditioning. Leaves your hair soft and shiny.

Thin or Thinning Hair

If your hair is thin or thinning this nettle tonic can help. 30g nettle leaves, 450 ml water, 450 ml white vinegar, 20 drops of essential oil of choice [For dandruff try lemon eo for light hair or patchouli eo for dark hair. Tea tree for oily hair. Orange eo for dry hair]. Simmer nettle leaves in water and vinegar for 2 hours in an enamel pan then leave to cool. Strain before adding a few drops of essential oil and bottling. Shake well and apply to scalp every other night.

Dandruff

Dandruff can occur on both dry and oily hair. 1 part water to 1 part vinegar is a good dandruff treatment. For oily hair try: 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons of olive oil. For dry hair try: 2 tablespoons jojoba oil and 1/4 teaspoon tea tree oil.

Add Body

Add body to your hair with 3 tablespoons conditioner and 3 tablespoons Epsom salts mixed together and microwaved for 20 seconds. Work the mixture through your hair from scalp to ends and leave to sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Promotes body and life and will also help restore curls to permed hair.

Hot Oil Treatment

A basic hot oil treatment is 1 teaspoon soybean oil and 2 teaspoons of caster oil. Combine oils and warm on low heat. Massage mixture into scalp and hair and wrap hair in a hot towel (a towel wet with hot water with excess water squeezed off). Sit for 15 mins then shampoo and rinse as normal.

Tame The Frizz

Frizz Tamer: 1/2 cup conditioner, 1/4 cup honey and 1 tablespoon almond oil. Mix ingredients well and pour over damp hair, work mixture in and leave for 20 minutes before washing out as normal. Works for all hair types.
