How and when to use Hair Styling Wax

*** How to use

Apply a small amount (5-10c piece) to one palm and rub hands together.

Grab parts of your hair where you want to apply to wax and squeeze the hair wax onto hair. Continue until all areas you need are covered. Apply more wax if needed.

*** Wet Hair

If you have just washed your hair and towel dried it, this is a good time to add some HSW:

Apply a small amount of HSW to the knotted areas, gently rubbing into the knots. Continue until all knotty areas have some hair wax on them, however don’t apply too much wax – you don’t want it weighing your hair down or causing hair to look limp and wet.

Gently comb out hair, paying special attention to knots, starting from the bottom, working your way to the roots/base of hair.

*** Dry Hair

If you have dry hair and a really big or difficult knot, or maybe some chewy or glue in your hair:

Apply a small amount over affected area(s). When you remove the knot the hair wax will help your hair be less brittle, it will tame the static and allow hair to be softer and more elastic.

Essentially limiting damage to your hair.

*** Frizzy Hair

If your hair is frizzy or wildly curly and you want to tame the frizz/curls:

With hair like this, you may require more wax than 5-10c worth, depending on the results you want. For e.g. you may be able to have mild wet look ringlet curls, or just a smidgen of wax to tame the frizz.

Gently comb wax through your hair until the frizz is tamed or your curls are sitting nicely.

*** Fly Away Hair

If you have find thin hair, you might find your hair is often ‘fly away’; that is: strands of hair that stick out in all directions leaving your hair looking wind-blown and messy.

Applying a small amount of hair wax to the surface or your hair and combing/brushing through will help keep those find hairs in place.

*** Need Volume

If you need to add volume to your hair:

Apply hair wax to fingertips, pressing fingertips together to get wax onto each tip… then apply wax to scalp/base of hair in a pushing, scrunching, upward motion. You want the hair wax to coat the base of your hair and use it to lift up your strands of hair.

You can use it all over like this, or concentrate of certain areas such as the top and sides of your head. You can also tease your hair after applying hair wax to create volume.

*** After Styling

If you style your hair a lot, using hair dryers, flat or curling irons etc. you hair may be damaged, dry, brittle and fly away.

Applying a small amount of hair wax to damaged hair can help moisturise and treat your hair, much like a leave in conditioner (only more natural, because JOLI’s Hair Styling Wax is a natural hair wax and won’t damage your hair or cause hair loss).

You can do this daily, or once a week, depending on how damaged your hair is.
