What’s News! [blog]
Over the years there has been a large movement towards more ethical ways of living. As more people become concerned for our planet (our home) and our future, we have begun making more ethical choices in how we live and the effects we have on our environment. It has become more important than ever (and this importance is growing) to care for our planet so that future generations have a safe and healthy place to live, so that the earth is protected and animals are looked after.
Sustainable living is important to us, as is purchasing from ethical companies.
JOLI Natural Skin Care are an ethical company, but what does it mean to be ethical? Ethics may vary from company to company depending on what options are open to them. Here are some ways JOLI are ethical.
1) JOLI do not test on animals nor do we use ingredients that are tested on animals (by us or other third parties) because it is important to us that no animal suffer for a product. JOLI are all about healthy, safe and nourishing products. Safe for people, the environment and animals.
2) We use Australian manufactures for our packaging and labels which keeps jobs in Australian. JOLI feel it is important to support other Australian businesses and jobs.
3) A lot of our ingredients are produced in Australia, however, there are a number of ingredients that come from overseas, imported by our Australian suppliers. Where this occurs it is done via fair trade, giving third world communities a chance to make a decent living from their produce (no sweat shops!)
4) JOLI use recycled bubble wrap to keep our products safe on their journey from us to you. We approach companies who would have otherwise added their bubble wrap to landfill which means no extra bubble wrap was produced for us to ship our products.
5) Other parts of our packaging; BPA free containers, pretty ribbon, cellophane, paper bags etc. are recyclable, reusable or biodegradable and we send electronic invoices.
6) We have a number of charities we like to support. Charities that give support to minorities, young people who cannot defend themselves, indigenous people and disadvantaged people. Portions of our sales (your money) goes towards helping these people which gives us all a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
7) There is also the fact that our ingredients are biodegradable and don’t contain nasties that hurt the environment or YOU. This is one of the best things about JOLI Natural Skin Care.
When you’re thinking about making an ethical purchase of skin care products you can rest assured that JOLI is doing their utmost to be as ethical as possible because, like you, the health of our planet and your skin is important to us.

Word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising. I know I talk to my friends about good and bad experiences all the time!
For example I have recently started seeing a physiotherapist who was recommended to me by a friend. This physio is by far one of the best health professionals I’ve seen to date and I’d happily recommend her to others.
This lady is so knowledgeable, not just about how the skeletal and muscular systems work, but also about many things related to womanhood. The things I’m learning about how my body operates and how nature has designed both the female and male form is amazing. Such as: in native cultures where the confines of clothing (in particular bras) to hide their nudity is non existent they don’t have conditions like mastitis or trouble with breast feeding.
I love learning!
I also like getting better and knowing how to implement behaviors and strategies into making my body stronger and able to age well in years to come. As an added bonus this therapist is also not big on chatting
This got me thinking about JOLI’s customers and what they’re thinking and feeling about our products and customer service and what they tell their family and friends about us.
So if you’d be so kind I would love you to tell us “What words do you use to describe us” to your friends and family? Comment on this post or drop us a line because knowing what we’re doing right and where we can improve is important to us
P.S. those brave enough to share their views will receive a FREE natural Lip Balm (flavours chosen at random) as a Thank You!

We all have those moments where it’s been a long time in between relaxations, a long time since “Me Time“.
Quite often we don’t have the time or energy to really commit to a good pampering and at times like this it’s easier to put pampering yourself on the back burner. Yet we all need some quiet pampering time, especially over the colder winter months.
So here’s a good little cheat to have a some pampering time that can be done in around 20 to 30 minutes.
~ Run your bath and light some candles while the water is running, put some relaxing music on. Set the ambiance for that wonderful spa feeling. Pour yourself a bevy while you wait (be it a wine or green tea) and sip throughout your pamper time.
~ Add wonderful smelling salts/milk and some bubbles to your bath. When your bath is ready, hop in and soak for a while. Let the water soothe your mind and body and cleanse your skin while the scents ease your mind.
~ After you’ve soaked for at least 10 minutes and you’ve let your mind and body relax, it’s time for some pampering. To keep it simple begin with exfoliating your face with an exfoliant glove. Move in slow small circular motions to keep your mind relaxed.
~ Scrub your body either withe the exfoliant glove, loopha or some body scrub, taking time to work on your arms, decolletage, breasts, belly and especially your legs. Relax some more and soak your mind and body for a little while longer. Remember to sip your bevy.
~ Wash your hair in your bath. There is something fundamentally peaceful about your ears being under water, drowning out the sounds of life while moving your hair around in the warm water. Take as much time as you like pretending you’re alone and the world, for now, is your oyster.
~ Using a pumice scrub your feet. By this stage you’ve soaked them long enough for the dead skin to be soft and easy to remove. Pay attention to the heels of your feet and the skin around your toes.
~ As an optional extra rub your body all over with a moisturising scented massage oil.
After this quick and easy pampering you should come out feeling more relaxed and pampered.
When choosing a mineral makeup over a mainstream cosmetic brand it can be tricky to know what you’re looking for, or what to beware of.
JOLI offer some helpful tips to make your choice easier.
Firstly let’s talk about the benefits of using mineral makeup. Mineral makeup doesn’t clog pores the way mainstream cosmetics do so you’re less likely to suffer breakouts and premature ageing; allows your skin to still breathe while naturally protecting your skin from the elements; offers high water resistance; gives a natural flawless coverage and (if you find a decent brand) mineral makeup is free of toxic ingredients.
Ingredients to watch out for (bad) when considering a makeup brand: bismuth oxychloride, talc, mineral oil / petroleum, propylene and butylene glycol, fragrance / parfum, SLS, triethanolamine, cocamide DEA, parabens, diazolidinyl urea, 3-diol imidazolidinyl urea, DMDM Hydantoin, Qaternium-15, fillers and nanoparticles.
Another thing to look out for is the use of kaolin in mineral makeup. Kaolin, in and of itself, is great for absorbing toxins that are drawn out of the body during mask application or used in bath bombs. However when used in mineral makeup kaolin is used as a cheap filler instead of using mica, and can be drying on skin (since it’s use is to draw out impurities from your skin which has a tightening effect).
If the mineral makeup you’re thinking of purchasing contains any of these ingredients opt for another, more natural, brand. Note: not all mineral makeup brands are natural or free from certain toxins.
Some good brands to consider are:
What type of hair do you have? Thick, think, dry, oily, shiny, matt?
As with skin types there are hair types (usually similar to your skin type) and hair conditions. The type of hair you have is based on the dryness or oiliness of your hair and how much hair you have. Conditions are things like dandruff, frizz, limp or brittle hair.
There isn’t much to be done about the thickness of your hair, you’ve either got lots or you don’t. Although there are some tricks to improve your hair.
Limp hair can result in the build up of residue in your hair. To treat this try: 1/4 cup white vinegar and 1 cup water to rinse hair after shampooing and conditioning. Leaves your hair soft and shiny.
If your hair is thin or thinning this nettle tonic can help. 30g nettle leaves, 450 ml water, 450 ml white vinegar, 20 drops of essential oil of choice [For dandruff try lemon eo for light hair or patchouli eo for dark hair. Tea tree for oily hair. Orange eo for dry hair]. Simmer nettle leaves in water and vinegar for 2 hours in an enamel pan then leave to cool. Strain before adding a few drops of essential oil and bottling. Shake well and apply to scalp every other night.
Dandruff can occur on both dry and oily hair. 1 part water to 1 part vinegar is a good dandruff treatment. For oily hair try: 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons of olive oil. For dry hair try: 2 tablespoons jojoba oil and 1/4 teaspoon tea tree oil.
Add body to your hair with 3 tablespoons conditioner and 3 tablespoons Epsom salts mixed together and microwaved for 20 seconds. Work the mixture through your hair from scalp to ends and leave to sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. Promotes body and life and will also help restore curls to permed hair.
A basic hot oil treatment is 1 teaspoon soybean oil and 2 teaspoons of caster oil. Combine oils and warm on low heat. Massage mixture into scalp and hair and wrap hair in a hot towel (a towel wet with hot water with excess water squeezed off). Sit for 15 mins then shampoo and rinse as normal.
Frizz Tamer: 1/2 cup conditioner, 1/4 cup honey and 1 tablespoon almond oil. Mix ingredients well and pour over damp hair, work mixture in and leave for 20 minutes before washing out as normal. Works for all hair types.
