Treat skin pigmentation with essential oils

Each of the following essential oils are useful in reducing skin pigmentation (ageing spots/dark spots on skin).

 

Read through the following information and have a play around with making a blend you like and can use on your face to reduce age spots.

 

For best results apply only to area where dark skin is occurring, maybe use a cotton stick for dabbing lotion directly onto area.

 

NOTE: you will notice a number of essential oils listed here help with acne; acne scarring can lead to skin discolouration/pigmentation, especially if breaking out/getting blemishes later in life.

Bergamot

Uses: acne, oily skin, cold sores, eczema, psoriasis, shingles, insect repellent, PMS.

 

Mind: uplifting, useful for anxiety, depression, listlessness.

 

Body: aids with digestion; indigestion, flatulence, colic.

 

Skin: antiseptic, healing properties i.e. skin sores, scalp issues.

 

 

Blends with: chamomile, ecalyptus, geranium, lavender, lemon, marjoram, patchouli, ylang ylang.

 

TOP note.

 

Drops: 1% or less, i.e. no more than 4 drops in 20ml (approx 400 drops) carrier base.

Chamomile

Uses: acne, burns, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis.

 

 

Mind: calming, soothes anxiety, tension, anger. Promotes relaxation and good sleep.

 

Body: analgesic, alleviates headaches, toothache and earache. Eases menstrual symptoms.

 

Skin: soothes burns, inflammation, dermatitis, acne, allergy skin. Improves elasticity and broken capillaries.

 

Blends: bergamot, geranium, lavender, lemon, neroli, rose, patchouli, ylang ylang.

 

MIDDLE note.

 

Drops: as chamomile is the gentlest of all oils you don’t have to worry about adding too much. Application to face should generally be 1% essential oil to carrier base.

Frankincense

Uses: acne, asthma, mature skin, scar tissue, skin tone.

 

Mind: serenity, elevating, yet soothing, comforting.

 

 

Body: eases shortness of breath, aids with colds, coughs, bronchitis, throat infections.

 

 

Skin: tonic, good for ageing skin, smoothing wrinkles.

 

 

Blends: geranium, grapefruit, lavender, neroli patchouli, sweet orange, sandalwood.

 

BASE note.

 

Drops: 1-2 drops in 20ml carrier base.

Geranium

Uses: acne, bruises, burns, dermatitis, eczema, head lice.

 

Mind: uplifting, reduces stress, nervousness, anxiety, depression.

 

Body: clears and tones liver and kidneys, elimiantes toxins from body, reduction in fluid retention. Insect repelent.

 

Skin: balances sebum (oil), keeps skin supple. Cleanses and livens skin.

 

Blends: bergamot, grapefruit, lavender, lime, neroli, rose, sweet orangne, sandalwood.

 

MIDDLE note.

 

Drops: 4 drops in 20ml carrier base.

Lavender

Uses: acne, athlete’s foot, burns, dandruff, dermatitis, eczema, inflamed skin insect bites, insect repellent, psoriasis, ringworm, sunburn, scarring.

 

Mind: calm emotions, anger and exhaustion. May help with depression.

 

Body: calms palpitations, relieves insomnia, headaches, stress. Aids with nausea, vomiting, colic and flatulence.

 

 

Skin: disinfectant, promotes new cell growth, balances sebum, useful for many skin conditions.

 

Blends: bergamot, chamomile, geranium, lemon, patchouli, sweet orange.

 

TOP/MIDDLE note.

 

Drops: 3-5 drops in 20ml carrier base.

Lemon

Uses: oily skin, skin tone, varicose veins, warts, wounds.

 

 

Mind: clean, fresh, lively, stimulates body into action, aids in clear thinking.

 

Body: stimulates white blood cells, strengthens immune system, reduces high blood pressure, thins blood, i.e. aids with varicose veins. Antiseptic. Soothes insect bites, stings, cold sores and herpes.

 

Skin: removes dead skin cells, improves complexions, cleanses oily skin, softens scar  tissue.

 

Blends: chamomile, eucalyptus, frankincense, lavender, neroli, rose, sandalwood, ylang ylang.

 

TOP note.

 

Drops: 1-2 drops per 20ml carrier base. No more than 4.

Rose

Uses: eczema, dry/mature/sensitive skin, thread veins.

 

Mind: comforting, warming, boosting, stimulates affection and desire. Calms hyperactive personality, helps settle moods.

 

Body: calms pre-menstrual tension, regulates cycle.

 

 

 

Skin:  tones capillaries, skin tonic, soothes inflammation, reduces thread veins.

 

Blends: bergamot, chamomile, geranium, jasmine, lavender, neroli, patchouli, sandalwood, sweet orange.

 

MIDDLE note.

 

Drops: 4-8 drops in 20ml carrier base.

Sandalwood

Uses: acne, boils, infected wounds, antiseptic, eczema, infections, dry skin, rashes.

 

Mind: dispels anxiety, focuses mind.

 

 

 

Body: stimulates immune system, treats kidney and chest infections, sore throats, dry coughs. Relaxing, helps with sleep

 

Skin: very good with ageing and dehydrated skin, relieves itching and inflammation.

 

Blends: frankincense, geranium, lavender, lemon, neroli, rose, vetivert (also good for muscles aches), ylang ylang.

 

BASE note.

 

Drops: 1-2 drops in 20ml carrier base.

***  General rule of thumb ***

 

TOP note: 2-3 drops per 20ml base product.

 

MIDDLE note: 4-8 drops per 20ml base product.

 

BASE note: 1-2 drops per 20ml base product.

 

I recommend no more than 8-10 drops of essential oil in 20ml carrier base.
